No More Selfie Sticks… or Wet N Wild…

So Disney announced this week that they are extending their selfie stick ban to not only cover the rides but also now the parks as a whole and I can’t say I’m unhappy with the idea!!

Apart from the fact that quite honestly you look like a tit when you use one you have to think about the safety of others when you’re using one of those things. It’s bad enough having people who stop to look at stuff right in front of you but when you have a load of people just randomly stopping to take a selfie and it taking them a while to get it right it’s just a recipe for disaster. I for one am welcoming this ban and I’m hoping that everyone else will follow suit.

There are growing safety concerns for the use of the sticks on the fast moving rides and there have been numerous incidents of some of the rides being closed for periods of time because of this, much to the annoyance of other park guests because lets face it wait times at Disney are long enough without having the rides constantly stopped.

You can read a little more about it all Disney Ban on Selfie Sticks

We’re saying goodbye this year to something else in Orlando with the news that Wet N Wild is to close at the end of this year to make way for Universals Volcano Bay water park.

I had been wondering how long it would be before Universal opened their own water park and I have to say I am looking forward to seeing what they do with it. I visited Wet N Wild on my first trip in 1998 and to be honest I don’t remember a lot of it, I know it had some of the most extreme water rides because I wouldn’t go on them!! It’s definitely somewhere you need to visit if you have the chance before it closes.

There’s not a lot of info yet on Volcano Bay, needless to say it is based around a Volcano and I would imagine there will be something themed around it erupting, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of concept art yet but more information is expected to be announced in the coming months.

Fastpasses and My Magic +

Up at 4:50am on Sunday to book my Fastpasses being as I was at my 60 day mark, I’d actually set my alarm for 5am for the next 2 weeks so I can book them all up. I was under the impression that when you can book 60 (or 30) days in advance you could only book the day that the 60 (or 30) mark applys to. Have I explained that right? Apparently my sources were wrong and I’ve in fact booked all my passes for the time I’m away – no super early morning for me now!!

Getting them booked was really easy and a lot more self explanatory than I thought it would be.

Basically you open your My Disney Experience App, pick the park you”re booking for and choose your ride. It’ll then open a window giving you the date options.  Pick your date and then it will give you a list of rides. They put the rides into category’s, I think it’s by popularity, and you’re given the option of picking one from the most popular lot and then 2 from the other ones – or all 3 from the other ones depends on your preferences.

It then gives you your fast pass selections with times next to them, it generally gives you 3 or 4 combinations to choose from, either with the same rides and different times or sometimes with some of your options substituted for something similar. For example I’ve booked the Anna and Elsa meet (I really didn’t fancy spending 6 hours of my day waiting for them with 3 impatient children) and the time selections were quite late in the day, it gave me the option of meeting Rapunzel and Cinderella if I wanted to do it at an earlier time. However I believe if you’re doing this on a computer and not using the App it gives you a choice of times.

If the times are not what you want though book it anyway and log on on a PC later on where you can modify your fastpasses and choose from a list of times (I’ve just changed my Anna and Elsa from 9:30pm to 2:30pm which is much more suitable, and my Space Mountain from 7pm to 9:30am). So all is not lost if you don’t get the times you want. I’m now deciding whether to change my Mission:Space ones from early afternoon to first thing although I’m not sure as going on that after a massive breakfast at Golden Corral is a wise idea……

I’ve also done an online check in today for my resort which gives you the ability to request a floor and what part of the hotel you want which is fab 🙂 Also means less queuing when you check in and we all know that’s always a good thing.

I’m not having much luck with my Be Our Guest booking,  I spoke to a lovely lady on the phone today who looked at all the days I’m there and found NO availability 😦 She did tell me though that they generally have some 2 weeks before people go, something to do with cancellations and she also said asking on the day is always worthwhile. So if you’re like me and struggling then there is hope 🙂

62 days to go, BOG and new job…

So, I’ve been a bit quiet of late. I have a fantastic new job that is taking a lot of my time up BUT it is Disney/Orlando related and I basically get to talk about Disney most of the day and give people advice on holidaying in Orlando… I’ve landed on my feet with this one 🙂

New Job means more money for me so that means more money for the holiday…. which means I CAN GO TO BE OUR GUEST!! I’ve been looking at the menu and I think I’ve decided what I want to eat… Have you seen the food at this place? It looks unbelievable!! I’m going with the herb crusted lamb….

boglamb And of course I couldn’t go there and not have The Grey Stuff which even though it’s essentially just a grey coloured mousse type thing looks bloody good…

I’m a little excited it has to be said!!

FastPasses can be booked on Saturday 🙂 (well Sunday really for the first day I need them for…alarm is set for 5AM apparently the key time to book them and get the ones you want!) I’m not brilliant in the mornings so we shall see how grumpy I am if I get up and don’t get the ones I want!!

Disney have also announced that ALL the tickets bought in the UK so all the Ultimate Ticket packages for 2016 will have Memory Maker free which is amazing. Memory Maker is a fab little package that includes all your ride and professional pictures taken during your time in Disney. You can access them online and print them off to your hearts content – and add some little extras as well. I have it for my trip so I shall report back on if it is as good as it seems.

I MAY have been shopping for some more holiday clothes, I bought these as part of my bounding outfit a few weeks ago, anyone know who I’m going as…
